Places of worship
|
A Hindu temple is called Mandir or Kovil or Devasthanam . It is usually dedicated to a primary deity, called the presiding deity, and other deities associated with the main deity. In the United States and other Western nations though, most mandirs are dedicated to multiple deities. Most practising Hindus maintain a mandir in their homes for daily worship and meditation. There are several such places of worship in the lap of Sahyadri with interesting mythological beliefs associated with it. It is really interesting to hear such stories about the temples especially from the villagers when you are on a trek. |
