The cave complex was encavated during the Kokan Mauryas of Puri. Excavated at so low a level that water stands in the floor of the main cave hall even during most of the dry season & fill it in the monsoon. Once described as belonging to the class. of the great Brahmanical caves of Sita's Nhani, Dumar leni (Verul), Gharapuri; now in the worst state of preservation and recognition. However in size the main cave hall (92'X92') with adjoining porticoes and courts is the largest with the exception of 'Kailas' (Verul). At the centre of the square hall stands a 24' square with four doors and a large. Shiv-ling. Walls covered with carved images of Kailas, Tandav, Shiv-Parvati marriage.
